Today our adventures take us to Switzerland, where we will be exploring a home by Meier Architekten that is as modern and elegant as it is functional and balanced. Complete with plenty of outdoor living space and an in-ground pool, this abode certainly has a luxurious side as well.
Enormous windows make up the majority of this home’s exterior from the back, which endow the spacious interior with plenty of natural light that ultimately makes it an equally pleasant arena for relaxing and hanging out with friends and loved ones. Not to mention, there are a few other little surprises woven into this gorgeous design. In typical Swiss style, this home is streamlined and sophisticated with everything fitting in its proper place. There’s no doubting that this home’s exterior bears several hallmarks of modern design. The boxy structure and large windows, in particular, give this home its striking modern character.
Of course, this is the backside of the home, which is likely why the design team were so liberal with the amount of transparency in this exterior. As we will see later, the backyard’s privacy is reinforced with a thick perimeter of hedges.
We absolutely adore this spiral staircase. It is certainly a more contemporary take on the old, narrow wrought iron staircases of the past. Natural timber is combined with smooth white paint to create an artfully flowing set of steps.
The rest of the living room follows suit with regard to the colour scheme. Just as expected, the enormous windows on the right of the space beautifully illuminate this interior.
When we shift our orientation, the entire first floor of this house comes into view. Behind the sofa there is a fireplace that acts as a divider between the living room and dining area, which is situated in the background of this image.
Behind the dining table is the kitchen. The colour scheme is neutral, but the natural light helps to make this open plan space feel tranquil and inviting.
Just when we thought this beautiful, balanced home had it all, we came upon this wine cellar. The textured floor and stonewall combined with the reddish accents and glowing light make it feel bold and sensual.
What a stunning little retreat from a lighter, more tame decorative scheme! Further, the room is climate controlled to allow for proper wine storage of this treasured collection.
On the second floor, there is a balcony overlooking the backyard. It is shaded from the hot sun beneath the roof, but the views of the surrounding countryside remain in tact. This is a wonderful spot for enjoying a meal on a warm day.
The terrace is closely linked to the interior of the second floor, with only some sliding doors separating the two. This makes the patio idea for absorbing the spill-over of people in the event that the family chooses to host a gathering here.
We will end this tour where we started it, in the backyard. Don’t you love when things come full circle? From this perspective we can get a better feel for the yard’s dimensions and special features.
The patio leads out to this sitting area, and the pool resides just beyond that. Here we can see the lush greenery that surrounds the yard and ensures the family’s privacy as well. We are certain that this home an utterly relaxing place to unwind.
