Our newest inspirational piece comes from DI CASTRO ARQUITETURA, an interior architectural firm based in Barueri, Brazil.

Working one-on-one with clients, the firm delves deep into each and every client’s unique wants and needs, takes their available budgets and locations into account, and commits fully to first-rate results. The regions of São Paulo and Alphaville are where the majority of DI CASTRO ARQUITETURA’s projects are located, and the company provides various services including architectural designs, construction management, and interior design.

Today we take a sneak peek at one of DI CASTRO ARQUITETURA’s designing-and-decorating projects: a charming apartment that got a new lease on life thanks to its updated Provence-inspired style.

The total cost of this project? A cool R$ 10,200.

The beauty (and intricacy) of the Provence style

First up, a little background info on this admired design style. Provence, named after the French region, is a very original interpretation of the country design style, albeit with a charming French twist. Rustic naivety, cosiness, and simplicity are the main characteristics of this design style, with many little details coming together to provide a welcoming look for a cottage, villa, and even a mansion (although it has been said that the style works best in smaller spaces).

Here, in the open-plan living area, we can pick up many different pieces that flock together to almost produce an eclectic look. Yet there's a distinct elegance coated all over that makes everything (from the patterned floor rug to that eye-catching pendant dangling above the wooden dining table) charming, comfortable, and cosy.

The culinary corner

A hop and a skip away from the dining zone is where we find the kitchen, creatively separated from the adjoining socialising space via a simple breakfast bar.

As we can see, the Provence style is mainly associated with light pastel colours (mainly white), especially when it comes to walls. In terms of materials, rough plaster and not well-treated wood are the most popular to create that rustic simplicity.

The importance of colour

You don’t need to convince a professional in the architectural / design industry of the importance of colour in a project. And the Provence style has its own set of rules and regulations.

Basically, furnishings (that must be made of wood) need to be painted in light or bright colours that speak of nature. Think of fresh green meadows, aqua-tinted lakes, lavender-coloured fields of flowers, etc. These colours are meant to evoke the feeling (and heat) of an eternal summer in the South of France.

The bedroom with a classic twist

On to the main sleeping space which is coated in subtle whites and creams to:

a) Make the room seem more visually spacious;

b) Help reflect as much of the incoming light as possible;

c) Induce a relaxed ambience.

Notice the subtle curves and twirls cleverly peppered in select areas such as the frames of the wardrobe mirror, the headboard of the bed, etc.

The bathroom of dreams

The classy factor gets a firm upgrade for the more private areas of this apartment. Case in point, the bathroom, where the shower space (which can also pass for super modern or contemporary) looks most inviting with its creamy hues, patterned- and textured finishes, and even its firm commitment to storage (that wall niche to help save legroom is simply sublime).

Let’s look around a bit more to further appreciate the classiness of the Provence style – and the commitment to excellence by the DI CASTRO ARQUITETURA team.
