Baking soda can be your best friend in many household chores. To begin with, it is well known for its medicinal properties, such as helping to treat various health conditions that we encounter in everyday life like heartburn or injuries. Another well-known application is in culinary recipes, like that cake that looks all puffy and cuddly with a pinch of baking powder. But where baking soda is perfectly at ease is in the intimacy of a home: it works wonderfully in cleaning the house, from the living room to the garage, from the  kitchen to the bathroom, from the bedroom to the laundry room. With the help of this magic powder, furniture, appliances, clothes, shoes and even the car are clean, scented and brand new. In this book of ideas, you will get to know 47 ways to use baking soda in everyday life!

1. Refrigerator- baking soda is excellent for absorbing and eliminating odors. The refrigerator, for example, can easily lose the stench if it is cleaned with detergent and a soft cloth and then sprinkled with water diluted with sodium bicarbonate on the sides and shelves. Then it is recommended to put half a cup of baking soda in an open container and leave it on one of the refrigerator shelves. The powder should be renewed every three months.

3. Microwave-This equipment can be cleaned externally and internally with a cloth moistened in a solution of water and baking soda, rubbing it well and then rinsing it with water on a cloth.

9. Sponges – Sodium bicarbonate is a natural bactericide and can be used to wash cutting boards, sinks, garbage baskets, stove, fruit and vegetables, in addition to dish sponges and brushes in general. A valid recipe for all this is to mix three tablespoons of baking soda and half a tablespoon of sodium hypochlorite in a quart of water, leaving the stuff you want to soak for two hours and then rinsing it. To eliminate odors and specifically disinfect sponges for dish-washing, immerse them in a bowl of water in which four tablespoons of baking soda has been diluted.
