One-sided

Shifting all or most of the furniture to one side works well whether the room is narrow or square. The one-sided furniture arrangement is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also makes more space in the room. With a one-sided furniture arrangement, people can walk smoothly without having to zigzag around or bump into furniture. Browse through furniture designs here on homify for more ideas and inspiration.

At an angle

It can be quite challenging to arrange furniture in a small room when space is limited. One of the best ways of arranging furniture in a small, long room is at an angle. This is because the angular arrangement makes more space. It may also be a good idea to place your bed at an angle from a corner of the room to provide a path for foot traffic, and create the illusion of more space at the same time.  Pictured here, we see a table and a chair placed at an angle opposite a single seater. As you can see, this arrangement allows for more space between the furniture as well as making more walking space in the room.

Against the wall

Generally, placing furniture against the wall or window rather than in the middle of the room can save a lot of space. Larger pieces of furniture should be placed closer to the wall and smaller pieces of furniture should be placed facing the larger pieces of furniture in order to provide ample leg room and make more space. Apply this same principle to all the rooms in the house including the dining room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom as well. The results may astonish you and leave you with a bigger house!

Corner cluster

Another way to arrange furniture in a small room is to push some of your furniture into a corner cluster. L-shaped sofas such as the one pictured here work best for the corner cluster furniture arrangement technique. You can also place a tall floor lamp where the ends meet to make the most out of the space in your living room. As for your bedroom, you can make more space by placing the dressing table at the end of your bed. This simple yet sophisticated living room is designed by Cozy Nest Interiors, interior designers and decorators based in Bangalore, India and the United Kingdom.

Stacked up

Consider that the design of your furniture might be taking up too much space in your small apartment. Some pieces of furniture are simply over-sized and take up too much space, so you should probably stack them up against the wall, especially if they are light weight like the crates shown in this picture. As a general rule of thumb, stay away from heavily upholstered, bulky furniture as they tend to take up more space. Use furniture such as the ones pictured here instead and think vertical when it comes to other accessories like shelving and curtains.

In a triangle

Last but not least, consider the size and layout of your furniture. It's always more challenging finding space for larger pieces of furniture compared to smaller pieces of furniture. So, consider replacing your large furniture with small ones or arranging them in a triangular fashion like in this image. For example, pictured here we see some rattan and wicker chairs being used to create a cozy seating area. We hope you have found some good tips here to arrange furniture in a small room.
