As we all know, renovating your home takes time and patience. It takes a sharp eye for style and the know-how to execute the perfect design, but so much more goes into it that that. The needs and desires of the owners must be taken into account in order to create a truly perfect home.

In Chiang Mai, we expect nothing but the best from the architectural firm that calls itself the Good Architect's Office. By taking every want of the customer into consideration, these architects were able to construct a beautifully humble, sngle-storey home for a young couple and their dog. In the tropical dry climate, a palette of earth and clay tones were implemented on the exterior so that the home itself may blend in with its environment, while splendid aesthetics and functional elements occupy the interior.

Let's take a tour of the home and view some of the design stages. Ultimately the final product is one of quaint charm and subdued opulence.

The big picture

Here we have the home during some of the final stages of development. The railing has been installed, the windows fixed, the colours applied, and the mood set. Even the dog is ready to enter the final product!

Blending colours

Calming clay tones mixed with beige and terracotta are the ideal colours for this home, and it's all because of the area it was built in. These tones have a strong Latin influence and foster a connection to nature, this nature being the dry and arid climate.

Now that we know what the final design looks like, let's go step by step and see this miraculous design process first-hand from our professionals.

Beginning stages

Here we can see how our architects are setting the stage for an open interior that has multiple large access points to the exterior.

Setting it up

Here we see all of their materials out and ready to be implemented. The stairs made from concrete have already been added to the façade and we can already see a few of the interesting details that are to come.

Light-filled openings

This break in the roof will allow a hint of sunshine to come down and illuminate the deck while also ensuring this place stays cool under the heat of the intense sun.

The painting begins

Once the windows were installed, the architects began the paint job. Starting off with the lighter colours, we have a good, solid base for the darker earth tones to come and the fact that the stairs are painted in the same tone as the façade helps to create a more seamless transition from nature to home.

Interesting flooring

Parquet flooring is known for its versatility with style, and this style is one we can't get over. The home overall is very matte with its colour choices, but for the flooring, the residents wanted a bit more wow. A mixture of light and darker tones in the wood gives us variation and breaks the monotony of solid colours.

A great view

The owners of this home love their surroundings, so it's no wonder they asked for large window installments. The crisp green grass brightens the interior and is a nice colour change from the clay tones.

Sliding features

The project called for sliding doors and windows to be installed for a more open feel throughout the home.

The landscape

Part of the reason for these sliding windows is to let in air, but the other reason for having such extensive features is to bring Mother Nature indoors. Just look at how those plants from outside effectively become a styling feature in the interior.

Coming together

Here we can see the interior finally coming together! The ceiling is finished, the walls have been painted a nice calming yellow, and the flooring is finished.

Big open spaces

Although this home doesn't exactly have an open-plan design, it is open and spacious and makes you feel right at home as soon as you enter.

Small luxurious details

The home is humble, that we can say for sure, but the addition of small luxurious details gives it more class without being boisterous.

The base coat

A base of this salmon colour outside sets the scene for the rest of the clay and earth tones to come in. The harmony they create in this area is outstanding.

Stone features

We love these little stone pillars on the exterior. They function as the perfect foundation for a strong home and blend the exterior colours quite well.

The windows

Bright white windows make the exterior pop and give it more definition.

The deck

Just image sitting out on this deck with your friends and watching the sun set over a nice glass of wine. That's what these residents would love to do, so the addition of this area was a must. And as an extension of the interior, it helps the home become more uniform with its surroundings.

The railing

The railing was a nice addition to enclose the deck so the residents could feel more of a disconnect with their surroundings.

The details

The minute details outside, such as the precision with wooden cladding and paint as well as the small spotlights, create a wonderfully clean and inviting atmosphere.

Functional kitchen

The finished kitchen looks like a cute country cottage with its use of muted yellow, parquet flooring and marble work surfaces. With the L-shape design, the kitchen is left open with the possibility to add a small dining table just in the foreground. And with access to the deck outside, this space is guaranteed to have plenty of fresh air circulation, plus a great view to the surrounding landscape.

The bathroom

The bathroom exhibits a curious mix of mosaic tiles and timber slats. The colours are light and airy to match with the rest of the home.

Connecting spaces

This home boasts small dividers in the interior for a more uniform and connected feel throughout. And with each archway lined in elegant oak, the architects brought attention to each entryway, thereby highlighting depth.

The final product

And there you have it! A perfectly adapted home fit for the residents and the area. Without a doubt, these architects went above and beyond their normal call of duty to create a structure that is suited to its residents' tastes and needs.
