All over the world post offices are often the most beautiful buildings a town has to offer. One of the first things built in any town, they are usually one of the oldest structures in town, and consequently offer rich history and traditional architecture. However with the advent of the internet, and email replacing the regular post, these days they are mostly unused, offering a fabulous opportunity to convert them into fantastic living spaces!
That's exactly what we're looking at today as an old post office has been turned into an absolutely adorable luxury cottage. Both the exterior and interior have been completely refurbished, retaining the home's vintage charm, but giving it a burst of new life with some very modern features, and a complete refitting of the loft. The results, as you'll soon see, are amazing, pairing a classic and sweet bedroom with an industrial bathroom to stunning effect, so let's take a look!
This building's vintage appeal is absolutely timeless. Featuring a simple square floor plan with an elevated loft area, a beautiful tiled roof, and lush gardens, this home looks like it's straight out of a fairytale. The garden is quaint and sweet, especially the climbing plant surrounding the entranceway which looks like a magical portal to another world, and when you see inside you'll realise that's exactly what it is.
As we climb the stairs we get a look at the interior, which is almost completely carpeted for a cosy and welcoming vibe just perfect for a family. Full house carpeting is great, especially in cooler climates, because it keeps the house warm and saves you having to put on slippers every morning! The colour palette is simple and classic, allowing the home's charming structure to be the real focus.
And at the very top of the stairs we find the gorgeous renovated loft bedroom. Lofts are a really good option for bedrooms, especially when they have skylights, as it will ensure that you receive maximum sunlight hours, not to mention providing mesmerising views of the night sky to send you off to sleep.
Again the decor is very simple, with the varnished timber rafters and window frames breaking up the simple off-white colour scheme, and vintage floral linens offering a cute touch. We also love those little cubby holes which are a really innovative storage solution in a pretty small room.
However when you look from the other direction you see a fantastic new design element with a cool industrial vibe; exposed brick! Exposed brick has a lot of character, especially in a building as old as this one, so take advantage of it! That's exactly what they've done here, and we can see why they've kept the rest of the room relatively simple from a design standpoint; to allow the brick to act as the primary design feature, as well as providing visual unity throughout the loft.
The shabby chic desk and chair is a lovely addition, and look fabulous against the brick. Restored antiques are a great way to complement the rich history of an old building.
The exposed brick continues into the master bathroom where an impressive copper bath takes pride of place, and reinforces the vintage appeal of the room. The classic sink paired with the ornate mirror adds so much to the decor, but what we really love is the appearance of those lustrous hardwood floors.
While the carpet throughout the house is certainly comforting, you have to be pretty careful about using it in a bathroom as it can rot, so hardwood floors are a great alternative to convey that luxury villa vibe, plus it looks stunning against the brick.
Before you leave this home has one more special surprise; a spacious and beautifully maintained garden! With a wonderful stone patio, meticulously manicured grass, and vibrant summer flowers bursting from hanging pots, this spectacular garden finishes the home off in style.
We just loved this stunning home, and it just goes to show the kind of renovation magic our homify experts weave, especially with a classical structure like this old post office to work with! If you'd like to check out another very warm and welcoming home, just head this way!
