For many people, the kitchen can present a challenge when it comes to designing or renovating a property because it serves a very functional, practical purpose, so ergonomic factors must be taken into account. However, it’s also the heart of the home, a room you’re likely to spend a lot of time in with the family or entertaining guests, so aesthetic considerations are also very important. Today, we look to the kitchens future, as we present a collection of the most beautiful contemporary kitchen designs.

1. Seeing red

We begin our list with this quaint kitchen corner separated from the rest of the open-plan living space by clever counter placement.  The red colour scheme blends subtly with the colours of the exposed brick and beautiful ceramic tiles to create a powerful, but not overwhelming effect.

2. A dynamic blend of shapes and colours

The purple colour for the cabinetry was a bold choice, and it certainly won’t be for everyone, but it creates a very striking and original look. It serves as a dividing point between the all-white floors and ceiling, and in conjunction with the geometric shapes of the ceiling’s light fixtures; it makes the room appear almost as an art installation.

3. Keeping it light

In keeping with the general theme running through the home, this Argentinian kitchen has a very light colour scheme. The kitchen itself is fairly small, but careful design creates space and makes the room appear larger. The perpendicular seating and countertop ensures that the seating doesn’t infringe on the space available for cooking, and the under-counter lighting ensures every inch of the countertop is illuminated.

4. Pastel perfection

This beautiful, bewildering patchwork quilt of a kitchen is composed of calming pastel colours interspersed with wood, creating a very stylish and modern, yet homely kitchen. The wooden cabinets and beautiful tiles above the countertop blur the typically rigid lines between areas of the kitchen to create one unified vision for the space.

5. Throwing convention out the window

This unconventional kitchen utilises the properties greatest asset in its design: the surrounding natural environment. Windows replace as much of the wall-space as possible to flood the kitchen with natural light and provide access to the beautiful views of the countryside.
